Don’t Think. Just DO.

I was talking to a group of young people recently about their Christian walk and service. Some of them gave reasons/excuses why they couldn’t execute or attend to certain exercises – and I found myself saying, “Don’t Think. Just Do.”

I told them severally to repeat after me, “Don’t Think. Just Do.” (I know some of them rolled their eyes, but I didn’t “send”.😏) When I was done, I thought to myself that it was a mantra that I – and everyone, actually – needed to incorporate into our daily lives as well.

One of the biggest hindrances to our Christian walk and growth is our feelings:

-We don’t feel like reading the Bible, so we postpone it.
-We don’t feel like praying some mornings, so we mutter a quick one-liner for the day. God will understand.
-We don’t feel like going to church, so we sit at home. We can follow online.
-Evangelism? We don’t feel comfortable talking about Jesus in certain situations, so we keep mum…

…and we wonder why certain people seem to glide along effortlessly in their Christian walk – while ours seem to be dry, unpredictable, and a drag.

If we desire to grow in God, we can’t walk with our feelings.

Successful athletes know this. Rain, shine, winter, summer, late nights or busy days, they exercise irrespective of how they feel. That’s why they carry the cup or titles.

Successful couples do the same. Despite differences in opinions, body changes or life’s challenges, they love, respect, and serve each other.

Successful business people are not left out. They show up at their work, no matter the financial or personal setback they might have recently experienced.

If all the above were to go by how they feel, they wouldn’t be termed “successful.” They just do what needs to be done, without dwelling on their feelings.

The same is true for our Christian walk:

-Don’t think about how tired you are. Just get up and pray.
-Don’t think about how the other person/people might look at you. Just open your mouth – and preach.
-Don’t think about how voluminous the Bible is. Just open it and read.
-Don’t think of how tired you might feel after work and traffic. Just go to church – and if possible, don’t get home first.

Someone was sharing with me how his wife gets massive and difficult things done. “She doesn’t think about it. She just puts down her head and does it.” I felt that.

The devil is a master manipulator, and trust me, he knows exactly how to manipulate our emotions and environment to be directly opposite to what’s best for us.

If we analyse how we feel everytime we need to carry out a spiritual activity, we will never grow or be victorious in our Christian walk. We need to ask for the Holy Spirit’s help, then “just put down our heads and do it.”

The strange thing is this:
The more we just do what we have to, irrespective of our feelings, our feelings start to fall in place – and we soon looove what we are doing.

…and the enemy is very aware of this – which is why he tries to manipulate our emotions, as I said earlier.

So, what I say to one, I say to all – including me:

Don’t think. Simply ask for the help of the Spirit – and Just Do.
