Many years ago, God taught me to stand in His truth about me – no matter what I saw or felt. Prior to that teaching, I would speak and believe the lies of the enemy based on my feelings, circumstances or performance:
-If I felt depressed or unhappy, I would believe there was something wrong (with me.)
-If outward circumstances seemed to be less favorable, I would believe that my “favor” had disappeared – or I didn’t have favor.
-Most of all, if I had failed God in any area or didn’t perform up to par, it was over. No matter what the enemy threw at me, he was justified.
Then, I began to learn. I began to read, understand, and stand on God’s word, no matter what I saw or felt. If I fell short in any area, I would plead the blood of Jesus – and go right back to my standing in God.
I began to experience the favour of God in unusual dimensions.
I remember one time, I had had a very “wasted” two days. I had been feeling out of sorts, spiritually, and hadn’t really been reading the Word or spending time in prayer. Instead, I’d been spending time online following trending news and unprofitable topics. Yes, the Holy Spirit had convicted me and I had promised to pray later – but I didn’t.
I so wasted time, I got late for an evening fellowship. By the time I stepped out the door, the roads were jammed with people returning from work. There was no single empty vehicle. Usually, I enjoyed speed and immediate transportation. Even if there were no vehicles, and the traffic situation was horrible, I would find one immediately I stepped out, and usually it would have just one spot left. It was as though angels were always on duty for me.
Well, this day, I stepped out and began to pray for transportation. After some time of waiting, a lady joined me. A few seconds later, a vehicle with just one spot came, and, smoothly, this lady got in. Just like that.
Immediately, thoughts flooded my mind. “Deborah, that vehicle was for you. Just see, another person has taken your place. You should have prayed. You should have read the Word. Now, see, your favor has disappeared. You have lost your blessings…” and on and on.

Rather than give in and accept those thoughts, I opened my mouth and began to speak my reality in Christ:
“I stand in the righteousness of God, and my reality is God’s Word. No matter what I feel, favor surrounds me like a shield. God’s goodness and mercy are following me. My reality is that my steps are ordered by God…” and on and on.
It didn’t take a few moments – in fact, I was still speaking – before a better vehicle came along…which was very strange. The odds of finding two vehicles, each with one available space – within a few minutes of each other, in that traffic – was almost nonexistent.
I have never forgotten that incident.
You see, the enemy wants us to base our reality, words, actions and reactions on the external or our performance. He wants to deceive us into abandoning our true spiritual position and rights through feelings or circumstances.
If I had chosen to speak or re(act) to seeming external factors, I would have ended up believing I was “disfavored” or my favor had been “diverted.” Like many people, I would have believed I was experiencing the “almost-there” or “success-at-the-edge-of-breakthrough” syndrome.
This belief would have made me take certain steps or act in certain ways that would attract wrong spirits, actually allow disfavor and the workings of the enemy into my life, and cause events to play out as I believed.
See, your reality in God is not based on external factors. Neither is it performance-based: how much you read the Bible, or pray, or evangelize, or give. While these are vital to your Christian life, like food to the body, your reality in God is based on the finished works of Jesus on the cross.
Therefore, no matter what you feel,
-What the Word says about you is your reality.
-Your position of being seated in and with Christ is your reality.
-Your righteousness in God is your reality.
-God’s goodness and mercy following you is your reality.
-Your steps being ordered by God is your reality.
-Lines falling unto you in pleasant places is your reality.
These, and many more, are your Reality. Your Rights.
…and nothing and no one can change it.
