Godly Wisdom vs Devilish Wisdom

Believers say it all the time: “Wisdom is profitable to direct.” However,

*Wisdom that makes you lie – for any reason – is not godly.
*Wisdom that makes you inflate figures is not godly.
*Wisdom that makes you falsify age, dates or achievements is not godly.
*Wisdom that causes envy and strife among the people you interact with is not godly.
*“Divide-and-rule” leadership is not godly wisdom.
*Wisdom that makes you protect and partake in other people’s sin is not godly.
*Wisdom that makes you hide your own sin is not godly.
*Cutting down others to get ahead is not godly wisdom.
*Application of Machiavellian principles is not godly wisdom.
*Wisdom that makes you compromise your values is not godly.

Rather, the Bible calls this wisdom “earthly, sensual, devilish.” James 3:15

Ouch.

Other translations call it…

…the wisdom of the world, selfish and devilish…(TPT)
…earthly, natural, demonic…(NASB)
…animal cunning, devilish conniving…(MSG)
…worldly, unspiritual, demonic…(CJB)

Strong words, right?

Well, how do we know the wisdom that’s godly? James 3:17 helps us. Using the KJV and other translations, Godly wisdom is

*FIRST (most importantly) PURE: holy, transparent, no crookedness, honest, no hidden or wrong motive, no sinful/immoral idea or execution.
*Then PEACEABLE: doesn’t deliberately cause strife or quarrel, gets along with others.
*GENTLE: kind, considerate.
*EASY TO BE ENTREATED: reasonable, teachable, willing to yield.
*FULL OF MERCY AND GOOD FRUITS: filled with love, overflowing with mercy, blessings, and good deeds.
*WITHOUT PARTIALITY: unwavering, never displays prejudice, shows no favouritism.
*WITHOUT HYPOCRISY: not pretentious, not two-faced, always sincere.

Beautiful, isn’t it?

Yes, wisdom is profitable to direct – but if it is directing you in a path contrary to God’s Word and character, it is not godly. It is Devilish…

… and I know which you prefer.🙂
